About hawknote

What the service does

hawknote is a note capture and reminder platform operated at hawknote.net. A customer registers an account, verifies a mobile number they own, and can then text notes to a hawknote number. Each note is stored in that customer's own private, searchable feed, tagged either by the hashtags they typed or by topic. When a note asks to be reminded of something at a time, the platform schedules that reminder and sends it back as a text.

Why it exists

Note-taking apps lose to the two seconds it takes to open them. Texting is the one interface already open on every phone, so hawknote uses it as the way in, and keeps a proper searchable archive as the way back out.

Who operates hawknote

hawknote is a trading name for a service operated by Ian Bange, a sole proprietor. “hawknote” is the name of the service and the name that appears in its text messages; Ian Bange is the person and the legal entity behind it. There is no other company involved.

How it is run

hawknote is operated as a small independent service. It runs on its own server rather than on a third-party note platform, and it is funded directly rather than by advertising — there is no advertising business here, and no customer data is sold or shared for marketing. Accounts are currently by invitation while the service is small.

The messaging programme

Text messaging is central to how hawknote works, so it is documented in full: which messages are sent, when, how a customer consents, and how they stop. See the SMS Program page, the Privacy Policy, and the Terms and Conditions.
